New: Tailor Your Resume for Every Job in One Click (and Keep a Version for Each Role)
A few weeks ago we launched resume match, which shows how well your resume fits a job before you apply. The most common question since then has been: "Great, I'm a 62%. Now what?" Today we're adding the answer: CareerHound can now tailor your resume for that job in one click. Pro members can also keep several versions of their resume and see which one fits each job best.
Tailor my resume: from a score to a better resume
Once you've checked your match on a job, a new Tailor my resume for this job section appears under your score. Click it and CareerHound rewrites your resume in the language of that posting, then scores the new version against the same requirements so you can see exactly what the changes are worth.
Tailor my resume · Frontend Developer at Acme
Built web apps with modern JavaScript frameworks
Built customer-facing web apps in React and TypeScript
Names the React and TypeScript experience the posting requires.
Worked with the backend team on APIs
Designed and consumed REST APIs with the backend team
Makes your API work match "REST API design".
- Before and after score. The new score is checked against the same requirements as your original match, so the two numbers are a fair comparison.
- Every change explained. See each original line next to the new one, plus the requirement it helps with. You stay in control of what you send.
- Keywords now on your resume. The posting's terms that your resume didn't use before.
- The full resume, ready to use. Click Download .docx for a Word file you can polish and send, or Copy resume to paste it into your own document or an application form.
It never makes things up
Tailoring rewords and reorders what is already on your resume. If you wrote "JavaScript frameworks" and your experience shows React, it can say "React". It keeps every employer, title, date, degree and number exactly as you wrote them, and it won't add a skill, tool or result your resume doesn't show. If a requirement is genuinely missing, it stays missing, and the score reflects that honestly. Still, read it over before you send it: you know your experience best.
How to tailor your resume
- Open a job from your dashboard (or add one with New Job and paste the posting).
- In the Resume match card, add your resume if you haven't yet, then click Check my resume match.
- Under your score, click Tailor my resume. It takes up to a minute, because CareerHound rewrites your resume and then re-scores it.
- Review the changes, then click Download .docx (or Copy resume to paste it elsewhere).
- On Pro, give it a name and click Save as new resume to keep it as its own version for similar jobs.
Multiple resumes, and which one fits best (Pro)
If you're applying for more than one kind of role, one resume rarely fits them all. Your frontend resume should lead with UI work; your full-stack one with APIs and databases. With Pro you can now keep up to five versions: your main resume plus four more.
Add a resume version
- Go to Settings and find More resume versions.
- Click Add another resume, give it a name like "Frontend" or "Full stack", then upload a PDF or Word file or paste the text.
- Or skip this step: any tailored resume can be saved as a new version straight from a job.
Pick the right one for each job
- Open a job. At the top of the Resume match card you'll see a Resume menu.
- Not sure which one to use? Click Which fits best? CareerHound reads the posting and each of your resumes, rates how well each one fits, and explains why.
- Click Use on the recommended resume, then check your match and tailor it as usual. Each job remembers which resume you chose.
What's free and what's Pro
- Free: one resume, 2 resume match checks, and 1 tailored resume, so you can see the before and after on the job you care about most.
- Pro ($5.99/month): unlimited resume matches, tailoring for every job you track, up to five saved resume versions, the best-fit pick, plus follow-up reminders and automatic nudges.
Your resumes stay yours
Your resumes are only used for your own match checks and tailoring. You can edit or delete any of them in Settings at any time, and deleting a resume also removes the match results and tailored resumes made from it.
